Features, Requirements and Evaluation Criteria - AndrewGuenther/XLeapr GitHub Wiki

Features

XLeapr seeks to put control of gesture recognition into the hands of the end-user rather than the developer. These features were chosen based on interactions we, as users, would like to be able to append onto existing applications.

  • X Window support. XLeapr can run on any system which uses the X Window manager
  • Configurability. Users can bind gestures to custom key combinations or scripts.
  • Application specific behavior. XLeapr can recognize the active window and use a set of bindings specific to that application.
  • Extensibility. Users is able to easily integrate new gestures developed by other members of the community.
  • Developer friendly. XLeapr provides a developer friendly API for recognizing new custom gestures which can be easily shared with other users.

Requirements

  • X Window support.
  • XLeapr will run on any machine using X Window without additional configuration on the part of the end-user.
  • Configurability.
  • All configuration of XLeapr can be done through a single configuration file.
  • End-users will never have to see or edit any source code.
  • Application specific behavior.
  • Depends on both X Window support and configurability.
  • Access to running window is done through X Window
  • Behavior is defined through configuration file.
  • Extensibility
  • Gestures may be defined in self-contained single files
  • Gestures are auto-discovered in a specified directory.
  • Developer friendly
  • Provide an extra layer of abstraction on top of LEAP APIs
  • Gestures can be defined in a single Gesture class
  • Other
  • In the event of a failure, XLeapr will log the error and restart.

Evaluation Criteria

  • XLeapr will be tested using Python unittesting frameworks and mocking of X Window elements against multiple configurations.
  • All gestures provided with XLeapr will be built on the same API provided to developers to ensure maximum possible completeness.
  • XLeapr will be given to multiple end users for testing on their own devices, as well as constantly running through course project display fairs.
  • A usability study will be conducted on all default gestures included with XLeapr
