Some times you cant use the built in javascript object comparer, for example when you use a dependentObservable to format an observables output.

For these cases you can supply a comparer function to the mapping literal.

var mapping = {
    name: {
        comparer: function(value1, value2, observable1, observable2) { return value1.name == value2.name;  }
    }
}

Value1 is unwrapped actual value you also have the option to use the observable
