Analysis Bots Platform for GitHub - Wiki

The Analysis Bots Platfrom for GitHub is an open-source project that enables its users to automate various tasks using a collection of autonomous software pieces called the Analysis Bots.

Introduction

The Analysis Bots Platfrom (ABP) targets to provide a generic platform to automate arbitrary tasks on projects versioned using Git. But its main focus lies on the tasks related to complex project analyses. This is approached by describing and splitting those complex tasks into smaller more manageable tasks that then can be executed by highly specialized Analysis Bots. Scheduling the Bot executions cleverly and serving the results from one execution to the next leads to the desired complex analysis and its result.

This allows for highly customizable tasks without the need to start from scratch over and over again. Analysis Bots are implemented once for a very specific task and can then be reused arbitrarily. These Analysis Bots do not need to be provided by the project developers/maintainers themselves as the ABP provides both: A way to create and publish new Bots as well as platform to orchestrate existing Bots to form a complete analysis task.

Development

Initially, the project was offered by Ivan Beschastnikh (University of British Columbia, Canada) for the lecture "Software Engineering" at Saarland University, Germany. There a platform prototype was developed by a small team in the winter term 2015/16. Development continues at the Computer Science Department of the University of British Columbia.
