1. Initial Setup - AmyPhung/ROS-Toolbox GitHub Wiki

Instructions here were tested March 2018 on Ubuntu 16.04 using ROS Kinetic and Gazebo7

Installing ROS

Based on this link

sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://packages.ros.org/ros/ubuntu $(lsb_release -sc) main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ros-latest.list'

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://ha.pool.sks-keyservers.net:80 --recv-key 421C365BD9FF1F717815A3895523BAEEB01FA116

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install ros-kinetic-desktop-full

sudo rosdep init

rosdep update

echo "source /opt/ros/kinetic/setup.bash" >> ~/.bashrc

source ~/.bashrc

sudo apt-get install python-rosinstall python-rosinstall-generator python-wstool build-essential

Test that Gazebo works

gazebo

Create a catkin workspace

Based on this link

source /opt/ros/kinetic/setup.bash
mkdir -p ~/catkin_ws/src
cd ~/catkin_ws/
catkin_make
source devel/setup.bash

echo $ROS_PACKAGE_PATH should return /home/youruser/catkin_ws/src:/opt/ros/kinetic/share

Get starter code

cd ~/catkin_ws/src
git clone https://github.com/AmyPhung/ROS-Toolbox.git

To compile code

cd ~/catkin_ws/
catkin_make

Cmake errors are common here. For some common errors, check the troubleshooting page. When catkin_make is successful, run source ~/catkin_ws/devel/setup.bash in the catkin_ws folder.

Run roslaunch simple_create create_world.launch to launch simulation
