Aim of this project is to:

  • An app developed in Flutter so as to use/extend it toward Web/iOS/Android
  • Create an interface over ERPNext v12 API set
  • Simplify Data Observation and Data Entry to various ERPNext Doctype

Rationale:

ERPNext is a phenomenal project - an open-source ERP with enough bells-and-whistle to run a small and medium business out-of-the-box. But, at the same time, to cater to a generic set of users, the data entry forms are not very user-friendly when used to field users - those users who are either on the manufacturing floor or travelling (sales/purchase agents). The UI is definitely good but the key input fields (non-mandatory) are large for accommodating on a mobile device.

ERPNext also has an app - but that is more of a wrapper over the web interface. The web interface has fluidity to accommodate to the user's device, but the data input and output views are not very useful even after adapting to the device layouts.

Design Considerations:

  • This app doesn't aim to be a comprehensive implementation of everything that ERPNext has. Rather, it is an implementation of minimum common factors for features that ERPNext support. Enough to allow for information input and output easier.
  • Aim is to create a 'template' Flutter application which can be then customized as needed by a user for any fields that they would like to see.

Pending:

  • Creating enough documentation for self-service development of the app by non-Flutter users so as to add/remove fields from doctype as required
  • Only certain key functionalities have been supported - Leave from HR, Purchase Order to Receipt to Invoice conversion, Stock Entry. Some other functions like Sales Order would be added soon.
  • This is still a draft and doesn't have any self-test/Unit-test. The UI too is most spartan without any rework - more of a proof-of-concept.
  • Error handling of cases like version change, or permissions applicable is still not graceful.

Coming Soon:

  • Graceful error handling when permissions are not available for a particular function for a user
  • Neat segregation of functions on dashboard for features exposed
  • Support for Sales Order - Deliver - Sales Invoice Cycle
