2. Project Overview - Alienplayer9958/Training-Module---Team-1 GitHub Wiki

Training Module Description

This training module introduces students to the basic concepts of APIs by using the Open-Meteo Weather API in a .NET MAUI application.

Students will learn how applications communicate with APIs by sending requests and receiving responses. They will examine the structure of an API request, including endpoints, parameters, and requested data. Students will also learn how JSON is used to represent information returned by an API.

During the hands-on portion of the module, students will use a provided .NET MAUI project to retrieve weather information from Open-Meteo. They will use C# to send an API request, process the returned data, and display selected weather information in their application.

The goal of this training is not to teach every feature of Open-Meteo. Instead, it focuses on the fundamental skills needed to understand and use a web API in a software application.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this training module, students will be able to:

Explain the purpose of an API and describe how an application communicates with an API.

Identify the major components of an API request, including the endpoint and parameters.

Construct an Open-Meteo API request using location coordinates and selected weather variables.

Use HttpClient in a .NET MAUI application to send a request to an API.

Explain the basic structure of a JSON response returned by an API.

Retrieve weather information from an API response and display it in a .NET MAUI application.

Modify an API request to retrieve additional weather information.
