Example Projects

These are fully-worked examples of projects using minimal tools and resources, run in exactly the same way as Live Projects.

Wild Logging

A simple project to collect wild-life sightings from around the UK, and to present them on a map. You can find the project front-page here.

Implementation took 65 hours.

Time series data capture

A 12 week second-year student summer project for a paying client. This project enabled research scientists to import instrument data into a database, visualise and communicate it to peers.
A research team saves the data from their instrument as CSV files on MS OneDrive.
Time Series Data Capture allows a user to browse all the data files and select the ones needed for import. The import applies calculations to the data set, while storing in a Mongo DB database.
Once the data is stored the user can visualise it: multi-variable data can be overlaid on the same chart, panned and zoomed, and offset, so that features from one dataset can be compared with those of another.
The user has full control of visibility; they can mark a dataset as public or private. Once a dataset is public, a link to a particular visualisation can be generated and sent.
