Starter kit: first moulded object - Aliapur/Wiki GitHub Wiki
In this tutorial, the making of a simple moulded object is described.
Video tutorial
Material
- 100g of rubber powder or granulates
- 2 tbsp. of polyurethane binder
- a mould
- a mixing bowl with a spatula
- a pair of gloves
Steps
- Put the granulates into the mixing bowl
- Add the binder
- Stir until the binder is equally distributed on the granulates
- Pour into a mould with the desidered shape
- Press to obtain the desired density
- Wait at least 24 hours for the binder to set, and remove from the mould
Notes
-
The resulting object will probably crumble a little. More solid moulded objects can be obtained if a pressure is applied onto the object during the setting period. This is for example used for the production of rubber tiles
-
It is possible to accelerate the setting of the binder:
- By adding a bit of water (1 tbsp.) into the mixing bowl, at the same time the binder is added
- By gently heating the mixture in the mould, at 50-60°C for a few hours (depending on the thickness of the moulded piece). Higher temperatures would decrease the setting time, but could results in unpleasant odours.
- Chemical accelerators also exists ont the market, but they were not inculded in the starter kit.
