Can i use a group to sign up for a service (i.e. Apple Business Manager)?
No only internal users can publish to groups so the mail filter will not send confirmation or set-up emails to each user in the group.

Can I use an alias to sign up for a service?
Yes, however, the mail routing will take slightly longer than normal to route the email to the base account so give it a couple minutes or resend any verification email.
