Blog Post: Second Iteration (Narrative) - AlexSanford13/Planes_vs_Animals GitHub Wiki

In addition to creating the new visualizations I added a narrative to the website. I learned from feedback that while it was well created, there were some parts that I took for granted in my site that needed explanation. First, was a general narrative. While it was well designed, there had to be some sort of explanation. This started for me to look at each section and write a brief explanation within the section. This helped contextualize some of the information, and explain what I was hoping to display. I tried to keep it brief, as to let the data and visualization speak for itself.

I also needed to add a few definitions and explanations.

First explanation was the source of information. It wasn't very clear upon my presentation but the data explained that most information was retrieved from forms filled out at the time of the incident. This explains why some parts are more or less detailed. The website also explains that the identification process is usually done by sending off the animal carcass to the Smithsonian, which to me was one of the most interesting discoveries of the whole project. I did not learn more than this surface level information, or if they use this data themselves for more. But it is good context to explain where the data comes from and to what level of detail it is recorded.

I also defined the flight stages. I took for granted this knowledge when I created the initial draft of the website. I knew generally what each stage was, so when I created that visualization. So, I looked up more concrete versions of this information and added them into the website below the visualization.
