Blog Post: Creating the website - AlexSanford13/Planes_vs_Animals GitHub Wiki
While I do have some experience in creating websites, I am by no means an expert. To these ends I did find an appealing bootstrap layout that I felt would create an appealing website and started with that. I have linked to the layout, and also included their original documentation within the repository so that I can properly attribute their work to the layout.
I had a few different types of data I wanted to display, the geographic data of which airports, the text of the remarks field, the table counting which animals were struck, and finally the amount of damage done within the strikes.
Since it was the simplest visualization to create, I started with the word cloud. To create this I used the Voyant Tools website we were shown in class. It was a very simple interface to do text analysis. It started with a box to input the text. Then I selected the Cirrus tool, which then creates the word cloud. While on the site it does have an interactive feature to view how many times each word shows up. It also has a slider that increases the amount of words shown. I chose to display 155 words, since it was a bit more for ascetic reasons. This text analysis sadly did not end up showing too many things other than lots of abbreviations. There was not really any patterns shown that were not within the other data I analyzed.
