Project Manifesto - Akaiju/Quake_Multiplayer_Map GitHub Wiki
This is the official repository of the Quake multiplayer map, "Layered Reality", a free-for-all map about angry players jumping from one reality to the next while gibbing one another relentlessly.
The map focuses on creating a dichotomy: your typical arena shooter level layout with a ringed "primary" reality with two levels for constant speed and aggression, but with portals leading to the other realm where things are more open and have a linear shootout tunnel system. It's all about making the player feel more empowered, channeling their skills and knowledge of traversing two different environments without sacrificing their deadliness. Both these realities will have different weapons and pick-ups, so skilled players will know when to chase these down to change the flow of battle in the opposite reality.
This stems from the Lovecraftian element inherent to Quake's universe. It's a game about wanting to telefrag Shub-Niggurath and the weird extradimensional nightmares she spits out, so why should a Quake multiplayer map only be about running around a military complex!? This multiplayer map is an attempt to capture what's so uniquely appealing about this setting without sacrificing any of the ferocity in the multiplayer sphere.
