It is known exactly that there were a lot of ancient writings, created in times long before your advent, containing priceless knowledge pieces and depicting some of the most important historical events. The fact that nothing of this knowledge remained to present moment almost gives the impression, that something intentionally seeked and destroyed all of it.
Something... or someone.

It can be created in a Crafting Table, via shaped recipe:

Lore Fragments can also be found in chests within Stronghold Library.

Lore Fragments can be used to inscribe formattable name and text upon them, using The Architect's Inkwell.

Their main purpose lies in ability to combine them with basically any item, in order to attach all writings on the fragment to that item:

Lore Fragment shouldn't necessarily have both custom name and lore lines written to it. If only text is written - the item to which it is applied will have those lines attached, but it's name will remain the same. Same for only name.

The lore lines and custom name on the fragment, however, displace previous name and lore lines applied to the item (if present).

Applying Lore Fragment to any item always costs exactly 4 levels of experience. In cannot be applied to multiple items at once - if stack of more than one item is placed in left slot in the Anvil, it simply won't work.
