Description

the amnesiac is a villager up to night 3 when he learns his real role (which is usually already known to the moderator). The amnesiac is seen by the Investigative roles as their actual role (the role they gain on the 3rd night). If the amnesiac dies, the moderator reveals their actual role.

Variations

The moderator could potentially mix it up a bit by having the amnesiac’s actual role randomly determined. The moderator would mix up a few cards, probably including a werewolf and randomly pick one. This should be done pre game so the moderator can tell the seer what the amnesiac’s actual role.

The amnesiac could be made more potent/less potent by changing the night the amnesiac gains their role. Examples could include: having it on the second night, the fourth night, the xth night (with x being the number of werewolves) etc...

Use and balance

The amnesiac is a way of making night active roles less powerful, as they have less opportunity to use their powers. Here is a rule of thumb for finding the value of an amnesiac. If the actual role is night active then value is of the actual role minus two (if the value of the actual role is positive) to a limit of a value of one or plus two (if the value of the actual role is negative) to a limit of a value of minus one.

The amnesiac isn’t compatible with some roles that will die or win before the third night. E.g Tanner and Old man. If a moderator wants to include these as an amnesiac, they must change the rules

Moderator: (On the third night) Amnesiac, open your eyes. This is your role. (Shows role card)

(Amnesiac opens eyes and sees what the role is. They then nod to the moderator, signalling they know their new role.)

Moderator: Amnesiac close your eyes.

Playing advice

The amnesiac should attempt to survive until the 3rd night ,unless they know the game will not last that long, so they can find out their actual role. The amnesiac shouldn’t push too strongly to lynch werewolves, but neither should they strongly push to lynch villagers, to keep their options open when they get their actual role. The amnesiac should attempt to go under the radar and be unobtrusive, but how exactly they do this depends on the group they are playing in.
