Horror Elements
Possession Signs
Depending on which demon is possessing the unlucky patient, they will have telltale signs in the environment to show when they've snatched a body or are active.
Mammon
Bone crunches can be heard from Mammon getting comfy in their new body, and splatters of blood will be seen around different patient doors and hallways.
Leviathan
A high-pitched whistle is heard when Leviathan steps on the scene, using steam/mist to disorientate the Player and cause confusion or distress.
Beeelzebub
Whether it's the dysfunctional medical tech or an odd amount of flies, an incessent buzzing is heard in the halls, sign of Beelzebub getting accustomed to their new vessel. Inexplicable hazes of darkness are seen in rooms.
Event System
The event system is made up of multiple events that affect the level and the player's experience. These are divided into dynamic events and idle events. Dynamic events are triggered by walking into the event triggers spread across the level. Idle triggers are decided and executed when the level is loaded at every new hour.
Dynamic Events
Defamed crosses
Crosses will be spread across the level on pegs/nails. The player will be able to pick up and place crosses on pegs. When passing near a cross or at the event trigger location the cross has a chance of inverting or getting thrown from its peg. These will also have an additional audio queue. This will require the player to pick up and replace the cross with the peg. This additional optional task is given to reduce the chance of demon activity.
Idle events
Scratches on Walls
Scratches will appear on the walls of the room of the possessed patient. We could perhaps put these scratches elsewhere but dull, to introduce environmental storytelling that maybe this kind of this has happened at this nunnery before.
Exorcism Horror
While exorcising, audio of faint demonic whispering and screaming will play as 3D audio, to make the exorcism process much more scary. As well as this, some horror visuals of the demon flashing in front of the player at random intervals as minor jump scares and also to indicate the demon becoming "wounded" by the exorcism.
Minor Horror Elements
Hiding and Running
The player will have to sprint away from the demon when being chased, and there will be occasional hiding spots in the map, such as cupboards, under beds, or behind bookshelves. When hiding, the player may peek to check where the demon is while avoiding being seen.
Patient Behaviour
When a patient is possessed and chasing the player, they may climb up the walls and/or bend their limbs in unnatural ways. These limb movements will make a "cracking" noise similar to breaking bones.
