2. Verify SSH access to the host and the DPU
Both logins work. Recaptured 2026-09-29.
Dell host root and iDRAC root are the same passwords that already work on the other Dell lab servers. The BF3 ubuntu password is in 1Password. ubuntu is the DPU user.
Host
ssh [email protected] → root@dh5. Ubuntu 24.04.5, management eno12399np0 172.22.1.5/16.
This is the live host address. The earlier temporary 172.22.222.14 is gone.
If the host OS is down: ssh [email protected] (Dell iDRAC, racadm>>). Virtual Console logs into dh5 as root. That is the Dell BMC, not the DPU.
DPU
From the VPN: ssh [email protected] → hostname localhost.localdomain. Ubuntu 24.04.5, /etc/mlnx-release bf-bundle-3.5.0-89_26.07_ubuntu-24.04_64k_prod. Interface is oob_net0 (unknown pool). Planned 172.22.3.5 is not assigned.
From dh5 (rshim): ssh [email protected] → same hostname, same password. Recaptured 2026-09-29: ping 2/2 and SSH. Host side is tmfifo_net0 192.168.100.1/30.
If /dev/rshim0 is missing on dh5:
systemctl start rshim
ip link set tmfifo_net0 up
ip addr add 192.168.100.1/30 dev tmfifo_net0
ping -c 2 192.168.100.2
ssh [email protected]
modprobe rshim fails. This rshim is a userspace service. On 2026-09-29 the service was already running.
Inventory lists bf3 as ansible_user=root at 172.22.3.5. The working OS login is ubuntu at 172.22.222.3 or 192.168.100.2.
BlueField-3 BMC
Not required for this task. Recaptured the same day: ssh [email protected] → root@dpu-bmc.
