About Acumen - AcumenProject/acumen GitHub Wiki
Acumen is a modular, low-cost, easy-to-use web delivery system for digital content. Developed initially for digitized collections, Acumen supports any kind of digital content that has XML metadata. Hence, EAD finding aids can be searched alongside MODS-described items (for example). Acumen does not require complex metadata, such as METS, to organize complex documents; instead, Acumen uses the file naming system and web folders to infer order and inclusion at all levels of the hierarchy. That means a contributor need only add the content and similarly named metadata to web directories. By providing XSL to indicate what to index from each type of metadata, and how to display it, Acumen will automatically index the content. Since there is no "ingest" per se, the content remains unchanged in the web directory, and can be retrieved, changed, or replaced as needed. This greatly simplifies the use of the system, and ensures that no content is ever lost, and all content can be easily extracted.
