  • WSP recommends separating the design exercise into three parts
    • Design of the ActivitySim software
    • Design example implementation, using SANDAG example model
    • Design of production implementation, SANDAG ABM3 model
  • WSP revised the model adjustments to consider based on consortium feedback
    • Explicit telecommute component to identify simulation day telecommuters - already implemented
    • A hybrid working component to identify workings who spend part of the day working at their usual work location and part of the day working from home
    • A work episode component to explicitly simulate the number of work activities (including both out-of-home and at-home) and corresponding locations
    • Time spent working at home component for workers on the simulation day
    • Scheduling component for start and end time of work from home episodes
  • There are questions about how the teleworking updates affect the upstream and downstream components that need to be worked out
  • Joe agrees this should pivot to a design rather than implementation task
  • Joel says it would be helpful to look at other surveys to try to replicate the summaries with more data points
    • PSRC survey suggests that hybrid workers travel a lot and have distinct travel patterns
  • Joe suggests that focus of task should be on what we can update with existing framework and identify what could potentially be updated later as part of a next generation model or larger update
    • Scope should be modified to be more generic about identifying possible longer term changes and having discussions about those options
    • Decisions should be data driven
  • Bhargava suggests that SANDAG ABM3 and example model should remain similar to each other
    • But finding that balance may be difficult
    • Joe states that keeping the models consistent and taking advantage of SANDAG ABM3 updates is worthwhile

Administrative

• Thursday's meeting will be cancelled.
• SANDAG plans to submit abstracts to MoMo related to ActivitySim - application focused
• HGAC will submit on airport model that was implemented in ActivitySim
• Could start session with overall overview of ActivitySim and then follow it with other presentations on ActivitySim that are being submitted
  • Joe will write an abstract that proposes a session that starts with high level description of project and development status and then suggest that it include application focused presentations
