Newb's Initial Thoughts - AbeDillon/game_theory GitHub Wiki

This is going to start out a bit rambly and I'll edit my thoughts later.

Every budding game designer has one thing to overcome before he/she can proceed:

AMBITION

Well, now that's out of the way. So step one is understanding that you're trying to build Rome. It's not the usual building it in a day business either, I'm sure you have a firm grasp of the time investment this is going to require. I'm saying that you're trying to build Rome. All of it. This is going to take a lot of buildings, many roads, and more bricks than can be imagined.

I was writing too much in analogy so I'm rewriting this bit. Step 1: Pick which systems (in this case separate games) are important, and I mean critical heart 'n' lungs type important. Step 2: Pick which one of those you care about most. Step 3: Make that one game.

Alright, so now we've narrowed our scope down to just making one game. The way this works is we make it on paper first because we care about it. If we want this whole project to work then each component has to work. So we do this right. We talk, we get it to work on paper and THEN we make it. And depending on the game we choose I'd be happy to help lay out a path for where we go from there.

So, now that we got our pride in check and we understand that we aren't going to be making that big picture for some time to come, let's get to work!
