AS-11 X8 Specification
Refer to the AMWA AS-11 X8 website for full details of the AS-11 X8 Specification.
Example File Naming
The term "WIP" in a file name is to highlight that the Specification is "Work In Progress" and is therefore subject to change.
The names of the example files include a short version of the hash for the git commit of the relevant Specification that the file exemplifies. This is in keeping with the idea that the Specification is evolving.
Reg-XML Representations of MXF Files
Reg-XML documents that represent each of the MXF example files are also available in the "RegXML" directory.
:information_source: These are not "side car" XML files. They are automatically generated from the MXF files and contain an XML-based representation of all the Header Metadata inside each MXF file. This XML format is called "Reg-XML" and is defined in SMPTE ST 2001-1. :information_source:

This is almost identical to AS11_X8_WIP_fc6c19f_Example_7.mxf. It contains identical essence.
However, the file playout duration (Material Package duration) is only 447 frames rather than 508 frames (so 61 frames shorter). This is because the Material Package begins 31 frames later and ends 30 frames earlier. The content to be played out requires one frame of pre-charge and one frame of rollout – so, there are 59 frames stored in the MXF file which do not need to be referred to in order to play back the entire Material Package (it seems slightly unclear whether these should all be counted as part of the pre-charge and rollout for the Picture Track or not). The MXF file could be adjusted to remove these additional 59 frames. Indeed, some of these frames would need to be removed from the beginning of the file for it to be acceptable to some XDCAM hardware players.
If played correctly:
- the file has a duration of 447 frames (00:00:14;27)
- the first frame has a timecode of 00:00:54;01
- the main programme content segment still begins at 00:01:00;02
- the first frame shows the number six with the yellow wiper having made its first step into the orange background
