cmi5 Objectives
The group discussed what the scope of objectives reporting should be for cmi5. It was determined that there 2 basic scenario's for identifying/defining AU objectives.
- The objectives are internally defined by the AU creator (and the AU creator makes the course structure file with objectives defined)
- The AU is reused by a 3rd party and is placed in course structure. The Objectives are defined by the 3rd party.
In the second scenario, it is assumes that the completion of the (all of) the objectives associated with the AU are considered completed/mastered when that AU is complete.
In the first scenario, the same could be true or the AU may report separately on each objective.
Since there is mechanism in cmi5 for reporting on objectives to the LRS, there is no standard mechanism for the LMS to track objectives completion.
We have discussed the possibility of passing the the cmi5 course objective identifiers to the AU using the state document. (So that the AU would be able to record statements about the objectives to the LRS)
In scenario 2, the objectives reporting would be likely "all or nothing" (and binary - done/not done) and in Scenario 1 - the AU could report on objectives individually.
The next question for the group to discuss on objectives appears to be whether cmi5 should have a standard scheme for reporting on Objective status in statements to the LRS.
