cmi5 Course Sequencing

The group continued its work on course sequencing and discussed how theses features would be documented.

It was agreed that a series of small documents be made for each course extension (as the need for more may arise). These extensions would not be part of the formal specification but would indicate an example practice for meeting specific needs.

Course Extension Documents would be as follows:

• Set of Documents (one document for each extension “feature”)
• Focused on Course Structure
• Continuing adding new "features" as other needs arise (outside of collateral credit and prequisites)
• Future versions of cmi5 MAY consider these as potential features

The group also drafted a proposal for handling "prerequisites" as discussed in previous meeting. After some discussion the group determined that the property would follow the same pattern as "collateralCredit" (A property for a Block or AU with a list of AUs affected by the rule).

The term "prerequisites" was consider confusing as some associate it with courses level prerequisites so the property was renamed to "requires".

The draft of "requires" is as follows:

Description: The purpose of this optional property is to communicate the intention of the course author to the LMS that a specified list of AU’s must have met their moveOn criteria before this AU (or Block) is accessible by the learner.

The LMS MAY choose to implement the author’s recommendations. If implemented, this property defines a List of AUs (that MUST be in the course structure) that MUST have met their moveOn criteria before the LMS allows the learner to access this AU (or Block).

Value space: List of ids from other AU’s in the course
