"reason" Extension

The group continued its discussion of updating the "reason" extension for use cases where AU's were not satisfiable.

It was determined that a different extension ("new reason") should be created with a different IRI since repurposeing existing IRI woulbe problematic in xAPI.

It was generally agreed that the purpose of this “new reason” is for the AU to tell the LMS why it issued a Terminated statement.

The new extension discussed would have an object with "code" + a "message" (human readable in a language map) explaining why the AU terminated. It was suggested that the codes specify general catgegories of potential issues with out being too specific.

Proposed Codes:

  • 0 - Normal Exit
  • 100 - Abnormal AU termination due to the AU's operation ("It's not you, its me")
  • 200 - Abnormal AU termination due to the LMS's operation ("It's you, not me")

The group did not come to consensus on the categories or issues/codes and agreed to the continue the discussion in subsequent meetings.
