Troubleshooting Audio Issues

Is sound being sent to the sound desk?

  • Video is playing and has sound?

ProPresenter has a visual sound metre on the left side of the screen preview.

  • Radio Mic is turned on and un-muted?

The power button for the radio beltpacks is under the battery flap.

Ensure the mute switch on the top is not set to mute

Ensure the headset is connected and securely fastened

The receiver units, to left of sound desk, indicate whether radio pack is on or muted, also shows VUs for radio and audio strength

  • Instrument is plugged in to the correct place, unmuted and being played?

The AboveBar guitar pedal boards include a mute pedal, check it hasn't been muted

Is sound reaching the sound desk?

  • Are there any lights on VU meter above the input channel?

Small LED should flicker - blue -> green -> orange -> red - depending on strength of signal If nothing, then:

  • Are you using the wrong channel?

Check the VU LEDs and use the Cue button with the headphones to identify if going to a different channel.

  • Is the cable connected?

Press twice and hold the View button to the far left of the digital scribble strip to see which input each channel has been assigned.

  • Those starting with L are assigned from the XLR sockets on the rear of the desk
  • Those starting with SL are assigned from the stage boxes, using S-Link. The main stage box is channels 1->24, while the stage box within the drum booth are 25->32.
  • Is the input gain too low?
  • Press the Sel button above the channel strip to select the channel.
  • Adjust the top Preamp rotary to the right of the main screen Ideal is for a loud sound to light all green lights in VU meter, and occasionally into the orange lights.

If muted, the top Mute button above the channel fader will be permanently lit red. Press to unmute.

  • Is the input channel in a DCA?

Most channels will be part of one of the following DCAs

  • Speech - all spoken word mics
  • AUX - iMac, CD player and other audio sources
  • Vocals - all singer mics
  • Band - all band channels, excluding singers The channels within the Band DCA are also including one of the following groups:
  • Drums
  • Track
  • Instruments
  • Ambience

If the top Mute mute button is flashing red it is part of a muted DCA. The corresponding DCA channel strip will have a permanently red Mute button. Ensure all DCAs have been turned up, you would typically have these set to 0 when being used.

  • Is the input faded up enough?

Push the fader up to hear the channel

Has the PA circuit tripped in the projection room? This happens every few weeks, it can be reset in the lidded box alongside the main projection room switches.

Caution! Make sure to turn everything down before resetting - otherwise it may suddenly come on very loud and you’ll need to run back down to the auditorium to set at a sensible level.
