Method 1

Press test button when you see multiple errors on the boot screen. Select "ALL FACTORY SETTING" and then select "ALL FACTORY SETTING" again in the submenu to clear settings. Select "SOUND FLASH INIT" and then select "SOUND FLASH INIT" again in the submenu to install sound data. Press start when sound flash init finishes to return back to the operator menu. Restart MAME completely (not just pressing F3) to fix RTC error.

Method 2

Press test button when it tells you to. Select "BOOKKEEPING" and then "SAVE AND EXIT". Restart MAME and you'll boot into the game.

Session play

Launch MAME with the following parameters to connect to a server (in this case, 127.0.0.1) on the specified port (in this case, 12345): mame.exe ppp1mp -rs232_network null_modem -bitbanger1 socket.127.0.0.1:12345

For this to work you must configure the RX/TX baud 9600 for both machines in the "Machine Configuration" menu.

Additionally, in-game you must open the operator menu, go to the "NETWORK OPTIONS" menu, and change ONE of the machines to "SLAVE". If the two machines are successfully linked then the bottom should say "NETWORK STATUS GOOD".
