Every modern website should at least stay close to these objectives to be production ready:

• Try to follow W3C Validation
• Minify page requests
• Leverage page/object/browser/database caching and expiration headers
• Utilize optimization techniques using tools like Google Pagespeed, Pingdom or Nibblr
• Design with mobile first in-mind
• Ensure proper responsive techniques for consistent legibility in all screen sizes
• Include modern web-fonts
• Follow Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0
