A thunderstorm from this datapack is very similar to a normal Minecraft storm.
However, many more lightning strikes (a total of 1 for each player every 5 seconds) ignite the environment and deal damage to creatures. Also, you cannot sleep because of the loud thunder. This results in many more monsters spawning that you can't avoid.
The thunderstorm usually lasts about 10 minutes.
