Here I'll attempt to gather my thoughts on why I participate in crypto. Some day I hope to summarize the bits and pieces I leave here.

I suppose I'm a financial hippy, or cyberpunk. I understand why governments needed to create currency for us long ago. Travel and communication were slow, a central authority was needed to create and maintain currency, communication (mail), and other things.
In this day and age, however, "we the people" have all the technology to accomplish these things. Governments have fallen behind. Take voting for example, it's insecure, and built on obsolete technology. There are better ways to implement this today, and crypto is fulfilling that in a trustless way.
Crypto & DAOs are the "countries" of the future, you decide where your citizenship lies. How we choose to be governed is no longer determined by imaginary lines drawn on our earth.

For what it's worth... I believe we owe a lot to the founders of the cryptography movement. If you choose to watch this video, hopefully it'll give some perspective into the drivers and motivations behind the tech we enjoy today. For me, it is "about the technology", yeah I'm participating in this space to improve my livelihood too, but I see cryptography as a liberating medium that will allow people to organize and govern themselves in a way they want to be governed (DAO's), hopefully in a way that's a little less corruptible than the current systems. We as citizens have the technology now to create our own systems of wealth. Governments have their purpose, but those purposes should adapt to the needs of the people, and we no longer need the government for much of what they're doing today, solely because that's what they did yesterday. Technology has allowed us to overcome the communication, travel, and other challenges people faced hundreds of years ago. I know people, in real life, that think of crypo as nothing more than a casino, and that saddens me because they're missing the point of it all. This video highlights some of the philosophies and ideals I appreciate about crypto, I hope you enjoy it.
