Number Idea Description
Publications What's the best way to display long publications in HTML? Currently, there seems to be an over-reliance on PDF to provide a visually appealing report or document. It would be great to create a project in WET that provides our website users with an optimized HTML view rather than forcing them to the PDF option.
Most Basic Implementation What is the minimal HTML markup requirement to have the WxT functional ? No Styling, No Mobile Support. Only get the minimal to progressively enhance the User Experience with the WxT plugin.
Live Chat Web Interface Slideout ? Dialog ? How the interface would look like in a usability/accessibility point of view ?
Accessible popups Often have requirement to provide supplementary information (e.g. definition, logins, annotations, guidance). This is a very common requirement that has been challenging in the past but HTML5 and CSS3 make possible accessible solutions.
Alternate format presentation A consistent way to present alternate formats (PDF, ePub, DAISY, etc.) and related help links within publication contexts, e.g. as a standard right side content container.
Standardized, semantically smart backmatter presentation for publications A presentation container for all the standard backmatter information that is normally associated with GoC publications. Nice if it could also be presented in a manner that would make it possible to automatically derive/download metadata from it, for example, so the publication can be referenced in other systems such as library catalogs or citation manager. There should be some mechanism to ensure metadata is being made available in standards formats that can be reused (see next point).
Metadata citation microformat for reuse of publication metadata. Might look at something like Dublin Core microformats or MODS. Ultimately, it should be easy to grab metadata for publications and do things with it, like build catalogs or allow the records to be imported into existing catalogs. This is essential for any real interoperability of government information.
Structured News Release Presentation Format Common semantics and presentation elements for press releases and their archive navigation. Common presentation and semantics here could be a boon for future interoperability and consistent indexing of this common document type.
