FTDI Port - sandrobenigno/WindRose GitHub Wiki

We call it FTDI Port because the most popular USB to Serial Adapters are based on FTDI chips. We recommend its adoption for ease of install and use. Those chips are there on the earliest Arduino boards and many external adapters for the wearable ones e.g. LiliPad and Arduino Pro Mini. There are plenty of those adapters out there. Most of them have a well known pinout order that we use on our board.

The main purpose of this port is to allow us to upload compiled code into the MCU.
This is done through a bootloader.
