About me

  • Name: Antoni Frau.
  • Languages: Spanish (native), English, Catalonian (Native).
  • Age: 23.
  • Studies: Aerospace Engineering (current).

I've always been a big fanatic of the aerospace world, finding out whats beyond our atmosphere has always been a target for the history of humanity. Nowadays we are starting to have the technology and knowledge to make this dream real. in fact I tried to apply for astronaut but I am way taller than the limit. During my aerospace engineering studies I am preparing for the Ultralight plane title to increase my knowledge about how everything is applied.

Experience

I have experience working with Git, GitHub, PyCharm, Jupyter notebooks, Jupyter Lab as I done a simulation of a turbojet engine, turbofan and turbopropeller. Net thrust, specific thrust, specific power, engine performance, propulsive performance and powertrain performance of the turbojet when operating under different flight conditions (altitudes and flight speeds). I also worked collecting data from a real turbojet and analyzing it. For that I used scientific libraries: numpy, sympy, scipy and data visualization libraries like matplotlib.

Proposal

I want to improve the data visualization of all the data collected. I think it's very important to present the complex data in a simple way.

I love everything related to space and the power of software. And I am willing to learn how to improve my experience and make things increasingly complex. It would be good to have a program that calculates the minimum energy to make interplanetary journeys, as nowadays the cost of the energy is a big part of the budget. It is normal to think that if the amount of costs reduces, there money will be invested to do more of these journeys. Traveling to Mars, for example, will be a reality when we reach the maximum efficiency, less costs and the highest percentage of security.

I would like to start helping with the Interactive Porkchop Plots for interplanetary journeys and then start growing complexity with the Interactive Orbit Visualization in 3D and Low-thrust Maneuvers and Mission objects.

Timeline

  • Weeks 1-2-3: Study of the state-of-the-art (study the orbital mechanics, study the sources of poliastro profoundly and get better in my programming skills).
  • Weeks 4-5-6-7: Implementation of the algorithms.
  • Week 8-9: Optimize and get the maximum efficiency of the code.
  • Weeks 9-10: Validation and testing (test cases).
  • Week 11-12: Documentation (set everything down what the code means).

Skills

  • Product design: I'm also working on a company which I started called Kope Customs. We restore old motorbikes and also have a clothing line, so I need to be aware of the design.
  • Easy learning: As I am studying engineering I didn't have any idea of starting a company, so I managed to know what did I need to learn and then I implemented it. I'm able to do the same with any kind of code that I'm still not used.
  • Care of details: In the company take very care of the details because we think it makes the difference. I have had to learn to transmit in a pretty way what I do, so I thought I can bring this to the future User Interface I will do, easily understandable by someone unfamiliar with coding or astrophysics.
  • Community management: Kope also has a big community of followers on social media https://instagram.com/kope_customs. Thats because I learned how to improve on these tools. It's very important to know how to transmit everyone the work you have done.
  • Web design: I also managed to learn how to do a website and how to run it https://kopecustoms.es. I thought it would be great to have a good, well looking webpage to put all the information collected, accesible for everyone.
  • Creative problem solving.
  • Microsoft Office.

Additional Info

I am very aware of how exclusive the opportunity is and I would like to be able to express my maximum efficiency in this project. Participating in a project for a company like ESA, has always been a goal for me.
