Boot into wcml

Plug in prepared pendrive. Change BIOS setting or invoke boot medium selection dialog to let your system boot WCML from inserted USB drive.

Boot WCML

Connect to AP

Connet to WiFi network

Use network-manager to connect to your AP when system is booted to LXDE environment ( wcml-test is just an example ). If network is password protected you will be asked for password.

Start wcml

Shortcut to chromium browser called WCML App is on your desktop.

Start survey

Once chromium is started Wifi Coverage Mapper Live app will show.

Main page

By default, survey is called example (1), you can change it by clicking on [change name] (2) link. Presented floorplan (3) is just an example, you can provide your own in JPEG/PNG format by clicking [set floorplan] (5). Clicking [reset app] (6) will clear settings and restore defaults, while [help] (7) will bring you to this page ( if you have Internet connectivity ).

Most important button is [start survey] (4) which will start coverage mapping.

Coverage measurements

Surveying

Most of interactions with app is done by keyboard. You can move [back] (1) if you want to return to main screen. (2) is your main working area, (3) allow monitoring of signal level. Below is all keys which can be used:

  • arrow keys or VIM hjkl - move your position on floorplan ( marked by viewfinder )
  • shift / ctrl - speed up / slow down movements
  • enter or i - save value of signal level on floorplan
  • a - save AP position
  • z - change zoom level
  • g - generate heatmap
  • v / V - decrease / increase opacity of heatmap ( must be generated )
  • r - reset survey, will delete heatmap remove all points and position of AP

Done

Once you have gathered enough points you can generate heatmap, after that click Generate deliverables to compile Zip file containing your floorplan, heatmap and points in the form of HTML page. Link to download will became available once you click.
