GeoServer has been up to today only about data serving and map rendering. The OGC WPS 1.0 implementation in the WPS community module will let us venture into spatial data analysis.

This proposal involves:

• splitting the existing WPS community module in three sub modules, wps-core, wps-ui and wps-sextante
• upgrading the current wps-core and wps-ui to extension

The module meets all the requirements to make it an extension:

• It has a dedicated maintainer (Andrea Aime)
• It maintains sufficient coverage, 46%
• It has a several users expressing interest in the functionality it provides

Unlike other modules it still does not offer documentation, though it has a handy demo tool to be WPS requests graphically.

This proposal is additive. No backwards compatibility issues involved.
