- The Geomagnetic Observatory at Faraday, Argentine Islands by P.D. Cotton & D.A. Simmons in the Polar Record, Volume 23, Issue 143, May 1986, pp 192-195.
The operation of the magnetic observatory on the Argentine Islands from its opening in 1957 to the end of the 1982 are described. Full details of the site, buildings, instruments, and their operation are given. A normal and an insensitive La Cour Magnetograph were installed in 1955 and repositioned in l971 and 1970 respectively. The Quartz Horizontal Magnetometer (OHM) was used throughout for measuring the horizontal component, a Quartz Declinometer replaced the Kew pattern magnetometer for measuring declination 1982 and the Proton Precission Magnetometers (PPM) replaced the Magnetometric Zero Balances (BMZ) for calculating the vertical component in 1979. The method of computing mean hourly values is described and the accuracy and reliability of the data is described and the accuracy and reliability of the data is discussed. Tables are given listing the monthly and annual means, and listing the mean diurnal variation for each month. These tables are for the H, D and Z components and list values for all days, quiet days and disturbed days. -- Geomagnetic measurements at Argentine Islands 1957-1982 by P.A. Salino.
AIA observatory is located at the Ukrainian Antarctic station Akademik Vernadsky. During 1998—2003 Ukrainian Antarctic station Akademik Vernadsky (magnetic observatory Argentine Islands) was re-equipped with modern hardware for magnetic measurements, and this led to including the AIA observatory into INTERMAGNET in 2002.
In 2000 the British Geological Survey (BGS) and the Lviv Centre of Institute for Space Research of the National Academy of Sciences and National Space Agency of Ukraine (LC ICR NASU-NSAU) agreed to provide the satellite magnetic data transmission for the AIA observatory. 3455A GIM (SYNERGETICS INTERNATIONAL) transmitting antenna was installed at the station. It provides data transmission to the GOES-E geostationary satellite. Data from the LEMI008 variometer has been transmitted continuously via the satellite channel since February 11, 2001. -- Ukraine Geomagnetic Data Centre
