Archaeological site

According to Robert C. Dunnell (1992), the archaeological site is

• “a basic, if not the basic, unit of archaeology,”
• a problematic concept that can structure our thought in unhelpful ways, and
• “its use is warranted neither as a unit of observation nor as a unit of analysis”
