Asset Management

The asset management section of the authoring tool displays the central library of assets available for use in your courses; from media files such as images, audio and video and well as other documents.

To access asset management, click the menu button to the top left and select Asset Management. Once there, you will be able to see all of the assets that have been uploaded to the tool.

Adding an asset

To add a new asset, click the "Add new asset" button in the sidebar. Browse for a file then give it a name, description and appropriate tags. Click "Upload" in the sidebar and the selected file will be displayed on the Asset Manager.

Finding an asset

You can make use of the search and filter functions in the left-hand sidebar to allow you to narrow down your search for specific assets.

  • Search by name will check the text fields associated with an asset for a match, so is useful if you know a specific word or phrase is used.
  • Search by tag lets you apply tags to filter the assets. Tags are stackable, so adding extra tags will narrow the pool of assets down further. This function is good if you're looking for more general assets, or cannot remember the specific name.
  • The file-type filters allow you to only show assets of the selected type, which is useful when sorting your assets at a very high-level.

All of these functions can be combined to give you powerful searching capability. Consider the following example:

  1. Enabling the image filter.
  2. Applying the tags car and red to show any images with both tags.
  3. Using the search field to narrow the file-type down to PNG images.
