#The User Describe you, in third person, as the user of this dashboard. Being able to describe the user-persona will help determine the goals.

My idea for this dashboard would be to help set up specific work spaces for different projects. I always set up my Mac a certain way depending on what project I'm working on, especially because I have the freedom of multiple desktops. For example, if I'm building a website, I'll have Photoshop open on one desktop, the second will have my Firefox window open with Firebug, and the third will have Espresso and a Finder window. (and for some tunes, the desktop before Photoshop will have iTunes open)

After thinking about this, if this were to be in an ACTUAL dashboard setting that would run on your desktop and interact with what programs that are on that machine. This of course would just be one option. Other parts of this dashboard would include like a social network feed without having to go to the actual app or website, any recent emails...

It would also include like a hub for most frequently accessed websites, or instead of the folder of all the helpful design websites I have on my bookmarks bar, I could access that list in my dashboard without sifting through it in Firefox.

The dashboard I'm thinking of is something that would be definitely designer targeted. This is something I would want to see, but at the same time I would want it to be an optional choice. I don't want to be forced to use the dashboard all the time, I would want to be able to get it out of my way if I need it.

#The Problems Identify or understand your problems the dashboard will solve. Why make this at all? Design is problem solving - what problems need solved?

Nowadays everyone wants things to be just that much faster, and I am no exception. It may not be difficult to open up each desktop and make sure the program is where it should be, but it would be awesome to hit a quick button or selection and have whatever workspace you need be set up in one go.

#The Solutions Research. Research. Research. Create a wish list with links and resources. Collect as much information as possible to find solutions.

#The Plan

  • Define small solutions without much complexity
  • How feasible is this plan to implement?
  • Is it manageable in the time allotted?

#The Review This step is repeated - often - and is apart of each phase/assignment. We'll review each phase of the process. Design is not linear, but needs direction - otherwise it's simply experimentation without purpose. We'll revise this document with commit messages.
