Summary:

Week 2 of the SYS 255 course primarily focused on Domain Name Services and Active Directories. On the small network of VMs which we are working with the main purpose of the assignments was to configure the Active directory and domain, as well as connect the VMs via the domain.

Assignments:

Lab 02:

This assignment comprised the bulk of the workload of the week, it involved creating and configuring an active directory and domain. This involved configuring PTR files, creating domain users, and adding a device to the domain.

A Deeper Look at DNS:

This assignment revolved around using Wireshark to analyze DNS packets to determine information on the DNS transaction.

Important concepts and tools:

  • Server Manager: Server Manager is a centralized management console in Windows Server that enables IT professionals to provision and manage both local and remote Windows-based servers from their desktops. With Server Manager, you can efficiently administer multiple servers without needing physical access or enabling Remote Desktop Protocol connections.
