Platforms Names

Platform names are used throughout RetroArcher and are a critical aspect of the code. Platform names will appear in the metadata, folder structure, and in the future be used to auto generate platform specific libraries (for users who would like separated libraries).

It is extremely important that your ROM folder has properly named platforms. The table below has the preferred platform name under the RetroArcher column. Common platform folder names from other front ends should be accepted as well. Some of the platform folder names from other front ends may not be working currently. If you find one that is not working as expected, please submit a Bug Report so we can fix it.

⚠️ Your ROM directory can exist anywhere, on any drive, except inside the Plex data directory. Do NOT place your roms inside <plex data folder location>\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Data\com.github.agents.retroarcher.retroarcher\media or anywhere remotely close to this.

ℹ️ You can safely move your folder without the need to re-scan assuming the rest of the folder structure remains the same. This means you can move your ROM folder from L:\Games\roms to G:\RetroArcher\games, as an example, and everything with continue to work.

ROMs

The ROMs should be placed within the platform folder. Generally speaking the files accepted by all the Retroarch cores of a specific system will be scanned by RetroArcher. One exception is .bin files for most platforms. These are typically ignored my RetroArcher in favor of .cue files.

Platform specific folder structure

Some systems may have unique requirements. Refer to the following list.
