Downloading data from the LANDFIRE Data Distribution Site

(information provided by Ryan Bart)

For the 2016 remap, Landfire no longer generates fire return interval as a separate data layer. Instead, it can be found in the Biophysical Setting (BPS) product. That product caontains 2000+ unique IDs for different regions/ vegetation types/ fire characteristics. The 2014 product does generate a fire return interval.

To obtain the 2014 product - go to the LANDFIRE Data Distribution Site
(from LANDFIRE site, go to "Get data" and click Data Distribution Site).
Click on the little map to get to full map viewer.
Select the download tool.
In the Download tool details (menu on left), select 'LF 2014 (LF_140)', then under that selext Fire Regime, then click on us_140 Mean Fire Return Interval.
From the menu on the right, expand the Data Download Tool menu option, Click the method box, choose Download Area by Template, then select State Boundaries from template dropdown menu.
Click on full map viewer within area of interest (i.e. California). This will take you to a new USGS website (example)
Area of interest (California) is split into east and west. Click modify and change download to tif with attributes and projection to UTM.
Finally, download that data.
