OpenShot Goals

OpenShot Video Editor is an open-source project dedicated to delivering high quality video editing and animation solutions to the world.

This document outlines some of the high-level goals I have for the future of OpenShot. This is a living document, and will continuously evolve, but in the spirit of open-source and transparency, I wanted to share my thoughts and goals for the project.

SIMPLE: Be simple enough for my Mom & Dad to use

In other words, it should be simple & approachable by all people, including non-technical and non-video editing backgrounds. Simple interface (initially at least), friendly help prompts, tool-tips, etc...

POWERFUL: High quality video editing & animation features

OpenShot should provide extremely high quality, professional-level video editing and animation features. It is my desire to have hundreds of professional editing and animation features included.

FLEXIBLE: Flexible enough for different types of users

This one is the hardest to achieve. To include the most powerful video editing & animation features, but do so without confusing less experienced users. To allow the flexibility for different layouts, views, and work-flows for more experienced users. Simple + Powerful + Flexible.

However, OpenShot has no chance on achieving these goals without the support from our open-source contributors, volunteers, translators, and users. Please consider joining our humble project and helping build OpenShot into something truly special! Please send us an email (hello@openshot.org) and introduce yourself!
