Years ago, the city of Southtown was experiencing an unprecedented splendor, until a mysterious young man related to organized crime came with his gang, filling the streets with criminals and becoming the city in one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Some people rebelled against Geese; Jeff Bogard, father of Terry and Andy, died during the battle with the villain. Now both brothers, with the help of their best friend and Muay Thai wrestling champion, Joe Higashi, will revenge Jeff and restore peace to help the people of the city.
However, the road will not be easy. Geese Howard, in his effort to stay on top, has organized an event, the King of Fighters, a street fight championship which, with the help of his henchmen infiltrated as fighters, will kill anyone who wants to face it without raising suspicion.
He is a street fighter who studied several fighting styles, forming his own. He spent his youth challenging stronger rivals, and later, he trained with Master Tung with his brother Andy.

Andy is one of the adopted sons of Jeff Bogard. When Geese killed his father, he decided to perfect the Shiranui-Ryuu, Ninjutsu and Koppouken, thanks to Mai's grandfather.

Muay Thai champion who returns to Southtown to investigate a terrible threat. He officially has a relationship with Lilly Kane, which his brother Billy Kane totally disapproves.
Collision Layout:

He is the bodyguard and right hand of Geese Howard, a very feared criminal in Southtown. Brutal and violent, will try to win the matches even cheating.
Duck King developed a unique fighting style after losing against Terry in a street fight. He often likes to visit nightclubs or the Pao Pao Cafe.

He is the legendary master of Hakkyokuseiken. He was the former teacher of Jeff Bogard and the evil Geese Howard.
Michael continues his training reaching practically superhuman levels, and in this way he manages to re-enter the professional boxing circuit.
Raiden is a professional wrestler who made his debut on the SWF circuit. Known for his cruelty on the ring, he moved to Southtown after getting involved in illegal fights, and was finally hired by Geese.
He emigrated to the United States, settling in Southtown. It was here where he inaugurated Pao Pao Cafe, a nightclub that remembers his native country, Brazil. He sign in the tournament to promote the Pao Pao Cafe.
He is a former champion of Muay Thai who was defeated by Joe Higashi. Hoping to improve his previously unbeatable technique, he perfected Joe's Tiger Kick to create his own Dragon Kick.
He is the head of the most important criminal organization in South Town. He is responsible for the death of Jeff Bogard, whom he murders out of jealousy, when he realizes that Jeff will be the successor of the school of their teacher, Tung Fu Rue.
At the begining of the game, the player have to choose on of the three playable characters (Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard or Joe Higashi). Then the game lets you pick your first opponent and beat them, the options are: Richard Meyer, Michael Max, Duck King or Tung Fu Rue. The cycle starts on the opponent that you pick first, so your next opponents will be in that order. Next three battles will be against Hwa Jai, Raiden and Billy Kane in that order, then you will fight the final boss, Geese Howard.
Most of the bad guys in the game are unbalanced; they are for the most part very strong, but have weaknesses that the clever player can exploit for a relatively easy win. Each character is detailed below.
Fighting style: A capoeira fighter. he hangs out from the ceiling and kicks you with his hands. He jumps a lot and uses a lot of kicks. He also crouches frequently for low kicks.
Weakness: Once you get used to their tactics, it's really not that hard. As a general rule, Richard is a victim of hurried movements. You can use them almost anytime Richard is on the ground and some distance away from you.
Strength: Be careful and play safe, try to exploid his weakness and dont be reckless.
Fighting style: Probably the easiest CPU enemy to beat, Michael Max is a boxer. Michael's standing punches are fast and damaging and he has his own version of Joe Higashi's Hurricane Upper.
Weakness: His attacks are easy to avoid. All you have to do is jump in on Michael with a kick, then follow up with a crouching strike. If you're using Joe, the sliding knee should again give you an especially easy time of it. None of the characters should have too much trouble.
Strength: Don't try to get in Michael's face and match him blow for blow unless your blocking game is very good. His punches are as fast or faster than anything the player characters can put together. It's also very hard to get a throw in on him.
Fighting style: Duck King is pretty balanced. His offense consists mostly of kicks, he is pretty fast and can be a real threat if you play too much agressive
Weakness: His main weakness is that he can get himself in trouble for being too aggreive. Your best counter is a throw, if Duck lands close enough. Once knocked down, Duck can be victimized by a long range B attack as he stands up.
Strength: Duck's rolling body attack dangerous, it is pretty much invulnerable. Once blocked, Duck will bounce off you into the back row. The second Duck bounces off your guard, hit the attack button to follow him into his new row. Most likely, your row-switch attack will hit, and can be followed up by a quick crouching punch.
Fighting style: Tung Fu Rue is two different characters. At the beggining he is a wise old man, but after taking a few hits he changes into a musculated old man. He transforms into this bane-like form after you knock him down to about 75% health. He transforms back to the old man form at about 25% health. During Tung's transformation into a gigantic twisted freak, he is invulnerable except for a little amount of time after changing.
Weakness: Going agressive is the key to beat Tung, and your best bet is get close and stay low and using crouching shots. Again, Joe's sliding knee is highly recommended. No matter which character you are playing, learn to time Tung's transformation so you can get a free hit or two on him at the moment his invulnerability wears off. Once you knock steroid Tung down to about 25% health, he will transform back into his geezer form, and from there it should be your fight.
Strength: In his strong form, Tung deals a lot of damage. He has to be very close range to hit you in his first form. During his transformation, he is invulnerable. The change takes a couple of seconds, after which he will assume his fighting stance; at that point, he can again be hit. You cannot throw Tung in his giant freak form. In addition, he gains a range ability and hurricane kick sort of move where he flies at you spinning with both arms extended.
Fighting style: Hwa Jai is another Muay Thai stylist. He has Joe's basic moves and after taking a few hits, he gains a special called the Rocket, an improved version of the Tiger Knee. At the beginning of the match, Hwa Jai isn't much of a problem. He throws a few punches and kicks, and occasionally leaps in with a punch. Once you get him to about 70% health, a green-suited man throws him a bottle of some dubious liquid. Hwa Jai turns invulnerable as he catches the bottle and chugs it. Once he's done he becomes vulnerable again, but his skin turns red, he starts drooling, and he gains the ability to use the Rocket maneuver.
Weakness: The first thing you want to do is weaken Hwa Jai as much as possible before he juices up. The best recipe for this is a pair of throws. Two throws in a row will have Hwa Jai at a mere 50% health before he starts rocketing around the screen. Your best bet for a throw is right after Hwa Jai jumps in with a punch; then you can do it cleanly. Once again, Joe has an especial advantage in this fight. While Hwa Jai is sucking down his joy juice, you can set him up to receive some rapid fire punches once he becomes vulnerable again. With proper timing, this move can finish Hwa Jai before he can do anything. You will have to practice this a few times until you finally get the timing of it exactly right. If you're playing as a Terry or if you miss the timing on Joe's rapid fire punch, you'll have to take Hwa Jai down the old fashioned way. Don't give the guy any breathing room at all! You have to keep the pressure on him at all times or he'll just Rocket you to death. Stay close to him and throw quick strikes to stuff the Rocket before Hwa Jai can launch it. If you're Andy, look for an opening to hit the Zaneiken, and give Hwa Jai a taste of his own medicine.
Strength: The juiced-up Hwa Jai is stronger and faster than he was in the beginning, but it's the Rocket that's your real worry. The move is very quick and has extremely high priority, and he can throw it over and over and over again. It can knock a jumper out of the air and stuff almost any special move. Hwa Jai can turn the tide of the match in a hurry with this move.
Fighting style: Raiden is a tremendous masked wrestler. He has a lot of range and deals a lot of damage. Aside from his punch and ground kick, he has a throw with absurdly long range, a flying body splash, and the ability to spit a cloud of damaging mist.
Weakness: Don't be reckless. Play safe and wait for some opens when he comes to atack you. Try to avoid his mist.
Strength: His throw is a particular danger; he can do it from well farther than you may think. Try to be as far from him as you can.
Fighting style: Billy is the classical biker and he has big red staff. He is a dangerous because he has a lot of range because of his staff. His two specials can be the decisive ways to win the fight, one is pretty strong and the other is leaves him open for receiving damage.
Weakness: Try to throw him, when you do that he lost his staff, and that's his most dangerous thing, he won't have it for a few moments so try to punish him as much as you can.
Strength: His staff is the most dangerous thing, he has a lot of range because of this.
Fighting style: Here he is, the final boss. He doesn't look too bad; he's a moderately sized blonde man traditional japanese clothes. In addition, he only has two special moves...but let me tell you right now, they are more than enough to get the job done.
Strength: The Reppuken, Geese's projectile attack. It looks just like Terry's Power Wave, except it's blue in color, much faster, travels the entire length of the screen, and does somewhere around 40% of you healt as damage. Geese can only have one Reppuken onscreen at the time, but they are so fast. The infuriating Ateminage is Geese's all purpose counter. You'll be tossing a move at Geese, any move at all other than a fireball or a throw, and suddenly you will freeze for a second and Geese will throw you for heavy damage. That's it, that's all there is to the move.
Weakness: The best way to beat this character is to play defensive until you se an opening, don't go greedy or agressive just stay calm and wait. There are basically two ways to deal with Geese, and both of them require careful timing. The best method is to cautiously approach him, still ready to block at any moment, and throw him. Try not to use any regular moves or specials, as Geese is too likely block them. Your best bet is to just stand there and block. Eventually Geese will get tired of Reppukens and try some of his other moves. You can get an easy throw on Geese if he tries to hit you with a jump kick. Blocking the move leaves you in perfect throw range almost every time. If Geese starts walking backwards as you approach him, he's yours. March right up to him and throw him down hard.
The gameplay follows the typical fighting games mechanic. The player fights against an opponent in the best matches in two out of three rounds. The game controls consists in a Joystick and three attack buttons: hit (A), kick (B) and throw (C). Each one of the playable characters has special techniques and combos that you can do entering specific commands in an specific order and combination.
When a second player joins during the middle of the first player's fight, instead of postponing the current battle for a match between the two players, the game will cause both players to join the current CPU opponent in a game of two against one. In some of the maps each round has different background: the weather changes and it usually gets darker.
Some of the enemie characters have battle transformation, when that enemies have low HP (Health Points) they have a power-up. For example, Tung becomes bigger and stronger, Hwa drinking an unknown substance becomes faster and obtains a new technique.
After every second encounter in the single-player tournament, the player will participate in a bonus round mini-game that involves an arm wrestling match against a machine. The player must press the A button quickly to win that mini-game.
Each player has a Health Points Bar, when one of the players' bar runs out he loses the round.
It is a best of three match, so if a player reach 2 rounds won he will win the match.
There are no battle limits, all the stage is playable, so you can't be dequalified for that reason.
