These type of Dehumidifiers using thermoelectric cooling aka Peltier cooling. The system is very easy to build and only uses a few common components. The dehumidifiers works fairly simple: the Peltier chip TEC1-12706 has two plates — one cold and the other hot. Between the plates, there are several thermocouplers connected together. When an electric current is run through it, one side will heat up, while the other side will be cold. This temperature difference -- which can reach a maximum of 67 degrees Celsius (152.5 Fahrenheit) -- will cause the moisture in the air to condense. The Peltier Cooler requires a beefy heatsink/fan combination at the hot plate to cool the TEC chip and an additional aluminium heatsink — at the cold plate — is also essential. With the rigidly mounted heatsinks be sure to use great thermal paste! The condensation forms on the outer surface of an aluminium heatsink that is connected to colder side of the element, thus generating drops of water that can be collected in the tank.
