Welcome to the OneGreenGov wiki!

OneGreenGov is a global event focused on the environment, sustainability and climate change. It is being organised by OneTeamGov, a movement led by a community of civil and public servants and their allies working to improve public services and reform the way the public sector works.

We're using GitHub to live our principle of "embrace technology." All of what we build is open and under the creative commons Licence.

Context and purpose of OneGreenGov

The global environmental problems we are facing are becoming ever more apparent, and are higher in the public consciousness than ever before. As public servants, our work will be touched by climate change and environmental sustainability whether it is part of our day jobs or not. The OneTeamGov community wants to bring people together to talk, learn and be inspired to take action - to live and work in more sustainable ways, to share their knowledge, and to develop policies, systems and practices which contribute to tackling the climate crisis, resource sustainability and environmental degradation.

To help contribute to this agenda, we are organising events in the UK and convening events worldwide to do this on 22nd January 2020. The events will have different flavours depending on where in the world they’re organised, but our united aims are:

  • To allow attendees to learn more about the climate crisis, environment and sustainability
  • To make connections with people who can help and amplify each other
  • To inspire attendees and observers to take action, both on the day and after

How organisations and individuals can support

Arrange local events at in your area or organisation.

This could be as simple as:

  • Providing a space for people to come together and discuss climate change and sustainability during a coffee break
  • Encouraging people to share their tips and ideas i.e. post-it notes on a board
  • Have a cycle to work day Or on a more complex scale:
  • Host a relevant talk – and invite the public to come and listen
  • Arrange school or community talks on the day
  • Tell us about your events on 22nd January 2020! Use the form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfQwqObTQKZnuYEdMsYclP7xGG_OJP7Sxn_ACo_R_Et9MpHLA/viewform

Anyone from anywhere is encouraged to build an event or tool as part of this event. The Platform team is especially interested in creating some tools and resources that help local teams to deliver.

This wiki will be updated with descriptions of the tools we build, and how local teams might use them.
