George Youssef:
Gambling addiction is a major problem for individual's, families, and society. Classical methods of monitoring gambling behaviour have focused on single assessments, often long after gambling behaviours become ingrained. This method is problematic as it fails to quantify what environmental and emotional factors drive gambling behaviours on a daily basis.
We have developed a suite of apps on both iOS and Android that will uses pop-up messages to asks patients to complete a short series of questions about emotional state and environmental context. They will also complete a short reaction time game. This will allow researchers to understand the emotional and contextual evolution of gambling behaviours through time.
These app will allow clinicians to develop personalised treatments that target an individual's unique triggering cues, and will provide information to develop behavioural models that can predict gambling behaviour based on past responses.
