Power Budget Spreadsheet
This spreadsheet compiles estimates for the consumption and generation of the satellite over each orbit. Each tab is a separate mode. The table on the left highlights the power consumption.
Operation modes
Each orbit lasts ~90 minutes. In separate tabs, each mode has every relevant component tabulated with wattage consumption in conjunction with the operation time as a percentage of orbit. Totals are tabulated at the bottom, accounting for safety factors, depth of discharge, and regulator efficiency. Each mode belongs to a phase of the mission: Launch, Commissioning, Scientific, and Maintenance. The important consumption figures are in the commissioning and Scientific phases.
The electrical characteristics of each mode are correct and tabulated on the first sheet, with peak power consumption.
The operation modes are as follows:
Detumbling mode
- After Sat-1 is initially detached from the satellite, it will be "tumbling" undesirably
- Slowly corrects the satellite to be stationary
- The highest energy consumption of all modes
Commissioning Mode
- ADCS tests that all of its components work. This takes place after detumbling
- Other systems, like the camera, calibrate themselves
- Uses a large amount of power
MPI
- Mode saved exclusively for MPI operation
- High power consumption
Safe Mode
- Used in case of emergency
- Used while low on power
Further information about mission op modes can be confirmed with mission ops.
